Install XI on a gearman worker

Post by BanditBBS »

I've decided to split up my current XI server into two servers. I want to install XI onto one of the machines that is currently a gearman worker. Eventually(week or two) all checks going to that worker will be moved over to the new XI install. This might hammer the box for a few, but shouldn't really cause an issue and both should work, right? Or am I overlooking something?

Thanks!

Hmm, yes they should work fine. Are you still going to use that gearman worker for check / perfdata processing for the XI server you are moving there? Or will it only be talking to the other XI server.

I'll be removing it once all checks have been moved onto the new XI install.......my plan is very fluid right now. I just recalled we finally put a robust VM environment finally on that part of datacenter, so I may request a VM...still thinking and hurting my head.

Gotcha, yes everything should be fine. The workers should not inhibit anything that XI / Core will be using. The only conflict I could see is if it was a Mod Gearman server, and not a worker, which would mean you already have XI installed there since it changes the broker module, which you don't. And hey, if you have the hardware set up for VMs grab em' while they're hot. Maybe you can get a beefier XI server out of the mix.

Lock it up....I'm not doing it. That worker is one of the machines with a single PSU, so I put in a request for a VM.
