Multiple XI Server Advice

Post by BanditBBS »

Capture.JPG
The above image is a drawing of my current environment. The only thing not current is the fusion server is not yet installed/built. I'm going this way, in the hopes after my many chats at the conference, that fusion will finally get the ability to keep you logged in as yourself when drilling down

Anyway, on to the advice I need.....

1.) Does this look like a good layout? Each square represents either a physical data center or a firewalled data center.
2.) There are a couple servers on one of the firewalled XI boxes that I would like to have showing in the large data center's XI server. I can send information from one XI to another, correct? Can you believe I never did that yet  Or.....should I just install the gearman worker like it says is on the one XI server and push those couple checks over to it from the main XI box?
3.) Umm, I know there was something else, but it's been a long week already and it is only Tuesday morning!

Ok, using gearman on XI severs isn't going to be an option...then they couldn't be there own worker as well....so scratch that....

So I should setup the hosts/services on the XI sever and setup outbound transfers to send to the other XI server and use the data filter to only send for those few hosts...right?

Let me see if I understand your problem:

1 - You have multiple different sites that need monitoring.
2 - Each of these different sites need to be able to see their own monitored devices.
3 - Corporate needs to be able to see all the monitoring sites.
4 - You need to forward some (not all) service checks from some monitoring site A to some other monitoring site B.

Is this about right?

If this is the case, then yes you should be able to get away with that. Depending on the number of passive checks you are forwarding through. I am a little confused about some of the arrow on your diagram, but I think that is just me not completely understanding your problem. But it sounds like you have a pretty good solution to your problem and are taking the right approach. If you experience performance issues then get mod_gearman involved.

Wow, the elusive Nick responding to multiple threads today...someone must be on vacation and he is covering for them, LOL.

Anyway, it is very few passive checks I will need to forward, so not concerned about a performance hit. I just never did it from Xi to XI and spent the day thinking about it while I was doing other things. Your statements are all correct.

I was going to get mod_gearman involved, but though of some issues with that when dealing with multiple Xi servers when wanting to use each XI server as a worker for itself as well (I think I explained that good enough).

feel free to close this...sometimes its just nice to write it down and think about it all day :)
