Hello,
A short description what I am doing.
I created my own VM Test environment and installed CentOS 6.4 x86_64bit LIVE DVD on this Virtual Machine.
Installed all needed requirements for the Guest Additions. (EPEL repo, GCC, kernel-devel, dkms, etc).
Then downloaded the Nagios XI tar.gz file and extraced it in the /tmp folder.
When I ran the ./fullinstall script it starts as should, but suddenly it stops with this:
---> Package python-rrdtool.x86_64 0:1.4.7-1.el5.rf will be installed
--> Processing Dependency: python(abi) = 2.4 for package: python-rrdtool-1.4.7-1.el5.rf.x86_64
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: python-rrdtool-1.4.7-1.el5.rf.x86_64 (rpmforge)
Requires: python(abi) = 2.4
Installed: python-2.6.6-37.el6_4.x86_64 (@updates)
python(abi) = 2.6
Available: python-2.6.6-36.el6.i686 (base)
python(abi) = 2.6
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
RESULT=1
I don't want to create symbolic links just because I can, but is it possible to create a symbolic link from/to the correct python-2.x versions.
Or is there an other solution to this.
I want to do a manual install of nagios XI (in this just as a test to see what problems I encounter), but I want the machine to preform other tasks as well.
As requested:
What version of Nagios XI are you using?
- none yet, downloaded xi-2012r2.5.tar.gz
Linux Distribution and version?
- CentOS 6.4 x86-64 so 64bit LIVE DVD used to install it. With gnome.
VMware Image or Manual Install of XI?
- Manual install on a Virtual Machine.
Are there special configurations on your system, ie; is Gnome installed? Are you using a proxy? Are you using SSL?
- Gnome is installed,
- Proxy is used, but correctly setup so yum can use it (add the PROXY=http://...... in the yum.conf file),
- SSL not used
- ssh on VM machine enabled.
- fixed IP
We already have a machine in use with Nagios core 2.3 something
But we want to setup a brand new machine with Nagios XI asap.

Re: Install of Nagios failes on rrdtool
I would suggest *not* using a 'Live DVD' nor gnome. Use a 'minimal' iso and do the bare minimum install. Our installer will set up the epel repo and install the necessary packages through yum.
