Hi,
Recently we tried NCPA on window server 2008 R2 in our monitoring environment. We are facing issue whenever Windows server restarts, plugins restart but on NagiosXI we get unkown error. In this case we have to login to windows server and restart the NCPA agent which resolves the issue. But this is not the idle way of monitoring.
Error we get on NagiosXI - "UNKNOWN: Error occurred while running the plugin."
Thanks,
Gautam

Re: Issue with NCPA agent
Is the server set to auto start the NCPA listener service? If not, this should be enabled to make sure the NCPA webserver starts back up when you reboot.
Re: Issue with NCPA agent
Thanks slansing for your reply, yes ncpa services comes up after restart. I did checked that, attach is the screen shot which I have taken when the problem occurred.
ncpa-2.jpg - The ncpa will throw this error message.
ncpa-1.jpg - After restarting the ncpa services, agent will work just fine.
Thanks,

Re: Issue with NCPA agent
Can you attach your NCPA log? Also, what version of NCPA are you running?
Code: Select all
NCPA_Installation_Directory~\var\ncpa_listener.log
Re: Issue with NCPA agent
NCPA Agent Version 1.2.
I am attaching the log files.

Re: Issue with NCPA agent
Ah, lets do this since those logs are quite large:
stop your NCPA services on the servers, then delete the log files, or rename them to save them. Then start the service again, if you see that error when trying to access the webserver's address after waiting a good 10-20 seconds, then send the logs again, this should clear them up for easier viewing, and allow us to see logs of the first start.

Is it not possible to look for logs around 10th, 11th Jan and 13th Jan. These are production server not so easy to restart the services.

Re: Issue with NCPA agent
slansing was a little confused there. He thought you were referring to the service restarting causing issues, not the server. I looked into your server 1 listener log, and specifically on jan 10, I see issues reading from your disk. What drive is ncpa installed to, and where are your configs stored? Is the service set to start automatically or automatically(delayed start)?
Nagios-Plugins maintainer exclusively, unless you have other C language bugs with open-source nagios projects, then I am happy to help! Please pm or use other communication to alert me to issues as I no longer track the forum.
Re: Issue with NCPA agent
slansing is not confused at all, we also faced issue when server was restarted and we started getting unkown error from plugin on Nagios server. NCPA setup was installed default, so services are set to start automatically not automatically (delayed). The installation directory is the default in C drive. I am attaching the screen shot for reference.
Thanks

Re: Issue with NCPA agent
Abrist had a great suggestion, can you try setting your two NCPA services to "(Automatic) Delayed Start"? This will allow all other automatic services to start, then start these two shortly after them. This might solve the issue if you are running into conflicts with other starting services, or a service that is required for NCPA's had not started yet.
