Editing a host's services after it's been configured

Post by [email protected] »

So I've been searching for the last 2 days and can't come up with an answer. I'm new to nagios. so this may be easy and I just can't find it. Configuring a host is stupid easy using the wizard, but say I missed a service OR wanted to add a service after I've previously configured the host. How would I go about doing that? I've tried going under Configure->legacy CCM-> Hosts ->edit but can't seem to edit a previously configured setup.....it seems. Is there an easy way to launch the configure wizard again without deleting the host and re-adding it?

Using:
NagiosXI

Monitoring:
Linux and Windows hosts

Use the normal CCM, not the Legacy. Also, to edit a service you will want to click Services, not Hosts. Then when you are in the service config you will click "Manage Hosts" and select the host from the list. Just a terminology mixup it sounds like. For the most part hosts are physical things, and services are programs running on them. You have one host with one or more services attached to it (or none).

OH MAN!!!! Thank you soooo much! Just that tiny bit of information led me to find exactly what I was looking for. It's kind of clunky compared to the wizard, but I get it now.

Those that are newbs like me and search that stumble upon this. This is what I did: clicked on 'Configure'-> clicked on 'Core config manager'-> Click on 'Services'

From there to make it easy I copied a service from the host I was going to add the service to. Then edited the copy to what I needed with the new service. Make sure to click 'Save' to save the service. Then also make sure to click 'Apply Configuration' at the bottom when done.

You're absolutely welcome. Things can be a bit complicated at times, especially if you have been handed this server and never used Nagios before (I have been there, it is not pretty). We're here to help, so don't hesitate to ask here in the future. If you want to view a live walkthrough demo of XI, our webinars are hosted live every Thursday at 2PM Central time. You can see more info and view an older recorded webinar here: http://www.nagios.com/products/nagiosxi/webinar

Since the issue has been resolved I'll be closing this thread now, but feel free to open another if you need anything in the future!
