Upgraded from 2012 to 2014 nagiosxi and missing alerts

I ran a backup of our system prior to the manual upgrade. I performed the upgrade, checked the release post upgrade and the upgrade was successful. I then ran the restoral from our backup I ran and the restoral took us fully back to the 2012 r9 release. I have upgraded again and would like to know how to run the restoral for just our alerts etc we have configured. Our system is a VMware OVF 64 bit Nagiosxi.

If you are doing an in-place upgrade your configured hosts, services, contacts, etc. will all still be there afterward. The full backup is going to back up all the XI files as well, effectively making a restore into a downgrade.
