I upgraded Nagios to the latest version and was greeted with a fabulous error;

Check your configuration file(s) to ensure that they contain valid
directives and data defintions. If you are upgrading from a previous
version of Nagios, you should be aware that some variables/definitions
If I manage to clear the first error rest assured there will be another right behind it as I try to apply the configuration. I have been looking at this for 2 days to no avail. Can you please advise on an appropriate course of action? We have a current support contract.

The trick is to not "apply config" until a "write" and "verify" (from the write config tool) report no errors. See the following FAQ entry:
