I'm getting a number warnings like this on a number of different hosts:
Warning: Duplicate definition found for service 'Print Spooler' on host 'svremrprt01.hhsc.org' (config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/services/svremrprt03.hhsc.org.cfg', starting on line 119)
I attached the 03.cfg file, and under hosts it lists all my EMR Print Servers. So two questions:
1) Can I just delete the additional servers from the services.cfg file, and:
2) Any idea what we might have done to cause this?
Update:
Also, I'm getting a lot of these:
2014-07-21 09:46:23Warning: Host 'SvrMMMC09' has no default contacts or contactgroups defined!
2014-07-21 09:46:23Warning: Host 'SvrMMMC08' has no default contacts or contactgroups defined!
2014-07-21 09:46:23Warning: Host 'SvrMMMC05' has no default contacts or contactgroups defined!
Yet when I look, each one of these hosts and it's related services, have contacts and contact groups assigned.

Re: Duplicate Definitions Warning
If you have a /usr/local/nagios/etc/services/svremrprt01.hhsc.org.cfg file there might be a Print Spooler definition in there for svremrprt01.hhsc.org. You can delete the duplicate in either location, but really the source should be in the CCM.
This can happen if you run a wizard against a host, then run that same wizard with the same options against another host, and then edit one of the services to include the other host so there are now technically identical two services pointing to the same host.

Re: Duplicate Definitions Warning
Thanks, I started going through all the hosts with the warning and removing the extra hosts in CCM.
I guess what we did was since we had the Print Spooler set up for the one server, we just went into CCM and added additional hosts to that service. You're saying that's a no no, we shouldn't do it that way?
Also, I added the update about the default contacts after you submitted your response, any idea what might be going on with that?

Re: Duplicate Definitions Warning
My Bulk Modifications is still not working, guess I didn't need to roll back the update.
So what's the fix when everything looks right in Nagios for a contact to receive email alerts, but no email alerts go out to that user?

Re: Duplicate Definitions Warning
You can certainly do it that way, just make sure there isn't another identical service set up for that host already.toleolu wrote:I guess what we did was since we had the Print Spooler set up for the one server, we just went into CCM and added additional hosts to that service. Post the configs for those hosts.toleolu wrote:Also, I added the update about the default contacts after you submitted your response, any idea what might be going on with that?

Re: Duplicate Definitions Warning
I've attached the host.cfg for one of those servers. Svrmmmc14. The config file lists the contacts and they appear the same way in CCM.

Are bcoogan, cmasteller, or dmendoza part of CDC Help Desk? That might explain the dupes.

Nope, I'm cmasteller, the other two contacts are the IT Manager and IT Tech at Maui. Here's something else that's strange.
I'm getting this:
Warning: Duplicate definition found for service 'Uptime' on host 'svrkch11.hhsc.org' (config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/services/svrkch04.hhsc.org.cfg', starting on line 102)

Warning: Duplicate definition found for service 'CPU Usage' on host 'svrkch11.hhsc.org' (config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/services/svrkch04.hhsc.org.cfg', starting on line 14)
I attached config files for both svrkch04 and svrkch11.

Re: Duplicate Definitions Warning
Got the problem with Maui servers worked out. The guys there missed a few steps on setting up hosts. We can clean that up, but I still can't figure out the duplicate service thing for the svrkch servers. (These servers are at Kona on the Big Island, so I suspect the guys there missed something on creating the configs as well.)
Let me know what I should check on these servers with the duplicate service issue.

Re: Duplicate Definitions Warning
To make life easier, hopefully, let me give you a quick rundown of what you are seeing with these duplicate messages. Forgive me if you get it already, but who knows maybe it will help someone else too.Warning: Duplicate definition found for service 'Print Spooler' on host 'svremrprt01.hhsc.org' (config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/services/svremrprt03.hhsc.org.cfg', starting on line 119)
This is just saying which service is actually duplicated, so you don't need to guess.Duplicate definition found for service 'Print Spooler'
The particular host that is seeing the duplicate service.on host 'svremrprt01.hhsc.org'
The actual config file with the second definition, causing the duplicate warning.config file '/usr/local/nagios/etc/services/svremrprt03.hhsc.org.cfg',
Just stating which line the duplicate definition is on.starting on line 119
Unfortunately this does not describe where the first one was found. So you will need to do a combination of looking for the service in CCM, looking at the config flat files or in ccm, and making sure no groups or templates are adding it as well.
