Maintenance Mode

Post by klee »

It seems Nagios maintenance mode has to be scheduled for a specific window.

Is there a way to put a system into maintenance mode, which would suppress alerts indefinitely?

Thanks,

Essentally that is just disabling active checks, so you can do that for the host/service in the CCM under Check Settings. Or you can do it right from the host/service details page under the Advanced tab.

Yes, I've resorted to disabling active checks to prevent items in maintenance from sending alerts.

But this entirely removes the systems from the main Host/Services Status list.

They won’t reappear until we switch “Check Command” back to “Active” in Nagios Core Configuration Manager for both service and host.

We're not even able to see the comment stating "System is in maintenance", which I added when acknowledging the alerts.

Is there a way to suppress alerts and tag them as being in maintenance status?

Thanks,

You could just put it into scheduled downtime with an end date 10 years into the future. When you are ready to take it out of downtime, delete the downtime entry.
I am a bit unsure why you would want to put a host into indefinite downtime while still monitoring it. Have you though about just disabling the notifications on the object in question?

Hi Abrist,

We'll frequently place machines into maintenance mode when downtime is not anticipated (but reboot or power-off is required)

We want to be able to see its status so everyone is apprised, plus we don't forget to re-enable the monitor.

I've tried disabling notifications but that doesn't seem to work for us; perhaps because our alerts are being forwarded (by notification handlers) to another network monitor (EMC SMARTS).

I thank you for the workaround. Pleas feel free to close thread.
