Redirect nrpe log to local file

XI 2014R1.2
nrpe 2.15 running as daemon (not using xinetd) started using nagios id

Can you please advice how to redirect the nrpe logs to a file?
e.g: /usr/local/nagios/var/nrpe.log

Do we still need to meddle with the system log facility?

I haven't tested it myself, but here's a recent post from someone who modified the NRPE source to do just that:
