Upgrade from XI 2012R1.2 to XI 2014R1.4

Post by luniversity »

I've read and understand the procedures involved in upgrading Nagios (according to the "How to Manually Update Nagios XI) but I'd like to make sure I'm Not missing anything.

I'm upgrading from 2012R1.2 to the latest Enterprise version (2014R1.4). It seems like a big jump and I'm wondering if there is any other info I could use to help in this process. Any tips, tricks, pitfalls or documentation that may help in the upgrade would be greatly appreciated.

Do you currently use mod_gearman? If so, there is some special consideration for that.

Well I've never seen or heard of mod_gearman in our system, so my initial answer would be no. But how can I verify that. Please forgive my ignorance, I'm taking over our Nagios system and I'm still uneducated on it.

mod_gearman is the method used to distribute checks among worker servers. If you don;t know what it is, you probably aren't using it. As far as I can think, you should have any issues, just make sure and get a good backup before upgrading, just in case!

@luniversity

Make sure you don't have any config errors or "ghost" hosts/services prior to running the upgrade script. As BanditBBS said: "...make sure and get a good backup before upgrading, just in case". Also, review this FAQ wiki post:
