Any best practices doc?

Besides the FAQ and WIKI etc., is there any best practices doc for newbies? Such as pros and cons of monitoring a Windows VM with WMI vs. SNMP vs. using Nagios agents. Good things to monitor in Windows? Thanks, Dave

I wouldn't say best practices per-se, it would unfortunately take a great deal of time to detail where one protocol or plugin may be better than another. In the case of Windows, in one case, you may have a WMI object that you can check, but the SNMP alternative may not have a table for it. You could also look at performance orientated aspects such as (do active SNMP requests incur more load on my systems, or does running a series of active checks with check_nrpe/check_nt?). I would definitely take a look at:
