Host notifications and resources used by NagiosXI

Post by BrianJones »

1. Linux Distribution and version? Centos 6.3
2. 32 or 64bit? 64
3. VMware Image or Manual Install of XI? Manual
4. Are there special configurations on your system, ie; is Gnome installed? NO
Are you using a proxy? NO
Are you using SSL? YES

Hello, for a while we had Enterprise Edition of Nagios XI, our trial has expired and we are now "stuck" with some hardcoded options in our Host Alert Message - Under Admin - Users - Notification Management there is red notice "This feature is part of the Enterprise Edition of Nagios XI. Your trial of this feature has expired. Some functionality may be limited or disabled. Learn more about upgrading to Enterprise Edition."

We are using NagiosXI for some time now, and it's getting bigger and bigger with lot of impact on server resources.
I have 2 questions:

1. Is there any way to change Host Alert Message (applying for new Enterprise Edition trial maybe?, changing this in configuration?)
2. What are "best practice" service resources used in environment with around 500 servers and 5000 service checks?

From that page:
Unless notification settings are locked, all users can still modify their own notification settings from the:
Configure->My Account Settings-> Notification Options page.
So in your case if you don't want to re-license your Enterprise Edition, you can do the changes individually on a per-user basis.

As for the hardware specs, that really depends on the checks you are running and how often. As a ballpark estimate, I would say at least 4 cores and 8GB of RAM for starters.
