Arguments not allowed

Post by JohnFLi »

http://exchange.nagios.org/directory/Pl ... s)/details

I am trying to get the above plugin to work.
As far as I can tell, I have everything set correctly.
in the nsclient.log, it reads

Code: Select all

1:17: e:..\..\..\..\nscp\modules\CheckExternalScripts\CheckExternalScripts.cpp:242: Arguments not allowed in CheckExternalScripts set /settings/external scripts/allow arguments=true
When I try to run the command manually, it says

Code: Select all

[root@g1vpnag01 libexec]# ./check_nrpe -t 10 -H g1pprend01 -c check_users -a 2 3 "john"
Arguments not allowed
On the Nagios web display, it show

Code: Select all

(No output on stdout) stderr: execvp(command_line, ...) failed. errno is 2: No such file or directory
here is my nsclient.ini

Code: Select all

# If you want to fill this file with all avalible options run the following command:
# nscp settings --generate --add-defaults --load-all
# If you want to activate a module and bring in all its options use:
# nscp settings --activate-module <MODULE NAME> --add-defaults
# For details run: nscp settings --help

Your setting is residing in the wrong key:

Code: Select all

[/settings/external scripts/scripts]
allow arguments = True
This should be:

Code: Select all

[/settings/external scripts]
allow arguments = True
Here's a command line way of setting the options:

Code: Select all

nscp settings --activate-module CheckExternalScripts --add-defaults
nscp settings --path "/settings/external scripts" --key "allow arguments" --set true
nscp settings --path "/settings/external scripts" --key "allow nasty characters" --set true

Ok, it now reads

Code: Select all

[/settings/external scripts/]
allow arguments = True
check_users=scripts\perl\check_users.exe "$ARG1$" "$ARG2$" "$ARG3$"
Now the error I am getting is

Code: Select all

[root@g1vpnag01 libexec]# ./check_nrpe -t 10 -H g1pprend01 -c check_users -a 2 3 "john"

and in the nsclient.log

Re: Arguments not allowed

Post by Box293 »

A couple of things

You had:

Code: Select all

CheckExternalScripts = True
But it needs to be:

Code: Select all

CheckExternalScripts = enabled
The settings and the scripts need to be in separate paths

Code: Select all

[/settings/external scripts]
allow arguments = True

[/settings/external scripts/scripts]
check_users=scripts\perl\check_users.exe "$ARG1$" "$ARG2$" "$ARG3$"
Also, you had a trailing forward slash after the word scripts which would have caused the allow arguments setting to be under the incorrect path

Bad:

Code: Select all

[/settings/external scripts/]
allow arguments = True
Good:

Code: Select all

[/settings/external scripts]
allow arguments = True
Working config should resemble this:

Code: Select all

# If you want to fill this file with all avalible options run the following command:
# nscp settings --generate --add-defaults --load-all
# If you want to activate a module and bring in all its options use:
# nscp settings --activate-module <MODULE NAME> --add-defaults

Great, thank you.
That fixed that error.

Now the script itself isn't working

Code: Select all

[root@g1vpnag01 libexec]# ./check_nrpe -t 10 -H g1pprend01 -c check_users -a 2 3 "$HOSTALLOWEDUSERS$"
'query' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
OK: 0 users logged in
Active Sessions:
[root@g1vpnag01 libexec]#
Wish I knew about perl.

I contacted the creater of the script.
He had a fix, and it appears to be working now.

Thank you all

He said he was going to.

Also, sadly enough, once I got it working, it doesn't do what I need. lol but it almost does

it works great if a user is activly remoted into a machine. But if they close the RDP session (not logging out), his check will show the person is no longer there, when in fact they still are.

Back to the searching board for me.
