Windows WMI Monitoring

Good afternoon everyone.

I'm just beginning use the Nagios XI software and am trying to monitor some Windows servers using WMI.

However, when I go to add a computer, the WMI screen asks for credentials which includes the following warning:

"The password used to authenticate to the Windows machine. Note: The password must be eight (8) characters or less and not contains special (non-alphanumeric) characters."


Am I correctly reading that to use WMI I have to have a weak password? If so, are the only other options to either a) use the Agent or b) wait until a 'fix' for weak password limitation is released?

I am pretty sure you can use more than 8 characters in your password. We will have to edit this message in the wizard. However, you can not use any special characters at this point. I am not sure if we are going to have a fix for this anytime soon but you can post a feature request on our bug tracker:

In the meantime you can probably explore some other options, for example installing NSClient++ on your target machine:
