Java: Best Version?

Post by polarbear1 »

Hi

General best practices question here. What Java is recommended for NLS? Obviously it will run on any halfway modern realease of OpenJDK or Oracle JRE, but are there any performance (or stability) gains to be had with a particular version (and vendor) over another? Is Java 8 a good idea (in conjunction with NLS 2015 R2.0), or do I want to stay on 7?

Thanks.

You can find a JVM matrix here:

With regards to your question - I recommend sticking with what we release, as that's what our testing is all done with. If there is ever a compelling reason to upgrade the Java version, we will wrap it in our release. With that said, if you want to take Java 8 out for a spin, feel free and let us know how it works out! We're certainly interested in hearing results using the latest version. :)
