NRDS vs NCPA vs NSClient++

Post by bosecorp »

I am having a lot problems with WMI. I want to replace that with something else. I am not a huge fan of installing agents on Servers but due all the WMI issues I am having, I need to replace it.

I used NRDS already for Linux and AIX. Works OK. but I want to know what will be best for WIndows

nsclient is the most mature and most flexible today, although we can't guarantee it indefinitely it does look good.
ncpa is ours, it works fairly well but has bugs, it will only get better. Mass deploying nsclient and ncpa are both fairly doable tasks if you have SCCM or other automation tools, and very similar processes.
nrds is the coolest with regards to deployment, but is passive only. If that isn't a restriction in your environment it could be the right choice because of the ease of deployment.

Good, taking NCPA out.

now, if passive is not a restriction for me, then which one will be better, nsclient or nrds

Just like flavors of Linux and flavors of ice cream, everyone has their own opinion.

Speaking about Windows only, if passive is not a restriction my opinion is that NRDS will be a better choice for you.
