Hello
I am setting up a bunch of HP switches to be monitored and when I run the auto discovery I notice that by default the SSH, Telnet and HTTP is being monitored. I for sure will monitor if the switch is alive using ping but does any one else out there do SSH, Telnet and Http. Just looking for best practice since I am new to this.
Thanks

Switching monitoring services
Re: Switching monitoring services
It's your call - questions like these are environment specific, you're free to pick and choose what you'd like to monitor and what you'd like to skip. I believe that if you're capable of monitoring an open listening port, you should. The monitoring check has the potential to become useful if the service ever goes down - it's especially useful in a historical context to see if the service falls over in any sort of 'pattern'.I for sure will monitor if the switch is alive using ping but does any one else out there do SSH, Telnet and Http
Again, it's up to you. In my test environments I always monitor open listening ports because to me it makes more sense than 'not' monitoring them. Other people may have different opinions.
Thanks!
