Monitoring Engine randomly stops in Nagios XI 5.2.3

Post by TBT »

After a recent upgrade to XI 5.2.3 we're starting to notice the Monitoring Engine stops across several XI hosts at random times. Seems to be after a few hours though. This is occurring on XI hosts with both moderate and low load.

Nothing really stands out in /var/log/messages

Please advise.

This is the first report of this that I have seen. Does it not come back up until you start it? What logs have you checked?

No it does not, requires manual start. I've checked /var/log/messages only.

Can you take a look at /usr/local/nagios/var/nagios.log and see if there is anything telling?

Another oddity worth mentioning is that the system check located top right in the header menu indicates "Monitoring Engine stopped" with a red icon, but the Admin > System Status > XI System Component Status is indicates running with a green icon.

UPDATE: NOT ALWAYS THE CASE. Engine stopped again and the icon was red in both interfaces.

A few obscure "[1449858778] External command error: Command failed", but nothing else that stands out.

Can you post the result of tail -n200 /usr/local/nagios/var/nagios.log for us to actually take a look at?

Engine stopped again. Seems to happen roughly every 6 hours.

Yo say this is happening on multiple XI hosts? All the same symptoms?
