Can't get email or sms notifications

Post by bmurtha »

I'm a user not an administrator, but the administrator refuses to help. I'm hoping if I give him the answer we can get a resolution to this problem. I put in my boss's email address and my own number and carrier and were not getting notified. I tested in outlook the [email protected] number it spit out and it works from outlook, so no problem there. What needs to be setup, we have exchange as an email server. Can Nagios be setup to forward messages with exchange. Or maybe it's a firewall issue where a port has to be opened somewhere and it uses the local smtp server. Please advise, thanks in advance. There are quite a few things to check here. Without administrator access, it's going to be difficult though. What options was your user set up with?

Good to know that's working.

Can you expand on this a bit? Generally Nagios will just fire an email/text/whatever you tell it to do.

Without administrator privileges, it's going to be tough to see how this is set up.

When someone receives notifications from Nagios currently, what is the from address? Is it an SMTP address from @yourdomain.com, or is it nagios@hostname?

This sounds like a configuration issue on the email side, but we would need to see configuration files to verify for sure. If there is no way of getting them though, then there isn't much we can pin point.
