Nagios XI Windows Service Monitoring

Post by michal.nastaly »

Hi Guys,

I have 2 identical servers, both have windows service monitored between 23:00 and 05:00 by Nagios XI (Active Check). These services are started and stopped by a script that is scheduled to run at these times in Task Scheduler. The only difference between the setup is that on one of the servers the service is set to manual Startup Type and the other is set to automatic. I have noticed that Nagios reports that the service is OK even when its not running on the one that is set to manual Startup Type. The one with the automatic start is fine, when the service is stopped i receive critical alert as expected. So here is my question:

Should Nagios (by default) report state as OK when windows service is not running and it set to manual Startup Type?

Regards
Michal

I can't imagine the start up type would have any influence on the check results.
- What specific services are being monitored and were these checks configured in Nagios manually or by using one of the Windows monitoring wizards?
- Could you post the service definitions for these checks & the script (scrub any sensitive info) that restarts these services?
