PHP Upgrade?

Post by bbolduc »

The last 3 security assessments dinged us for the outdated version of php. I’ve been told that we can’t update because of Nagios. I did some poking around on the forum and noticed a few older posts from 2015 that detailed a somewhat tedious process to upgrade php. I’m wondering if there has been any updates. Is Nagios going to support the latest version of php?

Sorry if this was already covered, new to the forum and I was unable to find the answers I was looking for.

What version are you currently running? I believe XI should run fine on PHP up to 5.6.

We're running XI with php 5.4. I believe we tried to update last year and it blew up on us. Do you know if there is any official documentation on supporting 5.6? I'll circle back with our internal engineers, but they had mentioned 5.6 wasn't supported yet.

Thanks!!

There isn't an official document for upgrading PHP on the Nagios server but if the PHP is upgrades, the Sourceguardian install would have to be run to upgrade that at the same time.
If the Nagios XI source is on the server, the installer would be in the /tmp/nagiosxi folder.

Some clarification:
Nagios XI specifically calls for PHP 5 which is the same version available in the Redhat’s 7.x package/patch repository.

We've tried upgrading PHP version 6 and 7 downloading source code directly from PHP’s website, but it breaks Nagios. We just downloaded the latest version of the Nagios installer to see if they have made any changes but is still calls for version 5.

When will Nagios support php 6 or 7?

On the grounds that it was never released, I don't think we can support PHP 6 :P

There is not currently a timeline for supporting PHP 7. That is mostly contingent on when a proper SourceGuardian module is released and evaluated by the development team.

That's what I get for cutting & pasting from an email sent to me by our engineers! Now I wonder if they actually tried the upgrade! Thanks for the info on PHP 7!

Sure thing! Is it alright if I lock this thread and mark the issue as resolved?
