Hi Nagios,
Seeing something very strange. We use XI 5.2.2. We have roughly 1,000 hosts, 8,000 services.
I deleted a host and all its services from Nagios last week. There is NO evidence that the host/services check exists in a log or the objects.cache file. I even turned up the debug_level=-1 and increase size of debug file and check for the host/service and see no entry. I've also restarted Nagios service couple of times.
When we look at the host in question, it is a network switch. We place an access control on the switch to deny incoming snmp, and then log to the buffer for any packets. It is clear that our Nagios XI server is sending packets every 5 minutes (this interval ties to the port/bandwidth check interval). On the flip side when I perform a tcpdump on the address of the network switch on the Nagios server it is clear that Nagios is sending a snmp request to this network switch.
How is this possible that Nagios continues to make calls to this device when it has been wiped clean from Nagios.
Thanks,
brdr
Nagios continues to check after host has been deleted
Re: Nagios continues to check after host has been deleted
Sounds like the MRTG configs are still running against that device. Do you still see a reference to that device under /etc/mrtg/conf.d/? If so, delete that and it should cease to run SNMP scans.

Thanks Trevor. That did it.
Question, when the device is deleted in Nagios, what is the hook to signal the deletion of the host's file in the mrtg folder?

Re: Nagios continues to check after host has been deleted
Currently there is no hook to delete the /etc/mrtg/conf.d config files for MRTG, you will need to manually clean them up for now. The ability to delete the MRTG configs when deleting the host is scheduled to be released in 5.4, I am unable to provide an ETA though as it's entirely up to the developers and the testing results.
Thank you
