Nagios XI Performance Monitoring on Windows Clients

Post by bsanto »

Hey all,

We're currently thinking about looking into a Nagios XI implementation. I want to look at how Nagios XI interfaces with Grafana, and only found a few resources on it here: https://exchange.nagios.org/directory/D ... na/details

and here: https://exchange.nagios.org/directory/D ... na/details

As many of you know, Grafana is for graphing real-time data (or as close to it as possible) and this is something we'd definitely want to use moving forward. How quickly does Nagios XI do performance monitoring? Is it a process that the client reports in to Nagios? Or does the data get written when Nagios runs it's check?

Basically, is the Nagios Performance checking on Windows fast enough to get accurate/decent "real time" data for Graphana graphing (within a few seconds)?

Thanks!

I know it's been brought up in the past, but this isn't something we currently have much integration for. The reviews on the Exchange sound promising, though. I'll bring it up for discussion again though.

To answer your question -

Nagios can monitor performance tables in Windows with WMI / NSClient++ / NCPA. It isn't quite an RTM monitor, it's checks are made to run at minimum, about a minute part. Even then, there is scheduling, so I don't think it would be the consistent RTM you're after.

You may want to look at NCPA - which is an agent that is actively developed by one of my coworkers. It has the RTM type graphing built in, but again, it this is only at an agent level. https://www.nagios.org/ncpa/

Just checking in since we have not heard from you in a while. Did @rkennedy's post clear things up or has the issue otherwise been resolved?

His reply helped me. We're good to call this one closed, I think.
