NagVis has not been updated in XI for quite some time. There was a major change in NagVis to how they use backend Nagios data and the newer versions have not been certified for use with current versions of XI.

Some folks have had luck with upgrading NagVis on their own, but it would not be supported by XI Support, I believe. I use NagVis quite a bit and would like to see some of the updates available in XI 5.4.x, but they have only so much bandwidth on their development cycles.

NagVis will be updated in Nagios XI 5.5.
Minor Releases and Ongoing Efforts

Features scheduled to be in Nagios XI 5.5:

NagVis integration and component update
Performance improvements to apply configuration scripts

These features may be in releases coming out such as 5.x and will be released around every 4-6 months depending on the amount of items in the release. Currently, we are looking at the following features and enhancements in the upcoming 5.x versions:

Improved dashboard and dashlet functionality
Improved smart wizards
Better CCM configuration utilities and additions (such as showing template inheritance)
Better installation experience
Easier to use customization options for large installations
Downtime page improvements (host/service group downtime pages as well)

Besides these specific items that will be in the upcoming minor versions, we will also be continuously improving the following in all minor 5.x releases:

Faster backend and overall functionality
Modern and updated unform user experience
Improved stability
Security improvements and updates
Smarter installations (XI, components, dashlets, wizards)

Just one question. Is there a ballpark timeframe where one would expect 5.5 to be released?

https://www.nagios.com/roadmaps/ suggests June, but we're too far out to say with any certainty.
