nagios sms notification device

Post by s.wiki »

Hi,
One of my client requires to have sms notification.
I have not done it before, here are my few concern:
May I know which device is nagios certified , or recommended ?
Can nagios connect to two device at the same time? (in case if one fail)
Can the email notification and sms notification co-exist?

Thanks

You do not need a separate device to send SMS notifications. Please see this document:
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf

This is also this:

Can nagios connect to two device at the same time? (in case if one fail)
I do not believe so.
Can the email notification and sms notification co-exist?
Yes. Please see https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf

Thanks alot for your assistance, i forgot to mentioned that our client insist to have a sms device. ( which i believe the multitech isms you shared earlier is something they are looking for)
Correct me if i am wrong, if i do not use the seperate gsm device, i would have to follow this link: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... 1467271546
How Does It Work?
Nagios XI sends SMS alerts by sending an email to your mobile carrier. Every user can define their mobile number and select the
carrier that the number belongs to. When a Nagios XI notification is sent, it is simply sent to xxxxxxxxx@your_carrier.yyy where
xxxxxxxxx is the mobile number associated with that user. Your carrier needs to accept email-to-text notifications for this to work.
However the my country carrier is not listed in the menu, and since the client wants to have a seprate device. So i'll skip this. Thanks for letting me know anyway.

But if i were to purchase the gsm device, i would have to follow this link:
from this link: https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... 1467271546
Each user that wants to receive SMS alerts must enable them in their account settings.
and from this link : https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... 1467271546
Common Settings
• Contact Name
• Email Address, Pager Number, or Addon Addresses such as a mobile phone number for text messaging, or additional email
addresses.
May I know do i set the sms setting on each user account manually, or do i set the setting under contacts? or both

Thanks

However the my country carrier is not listed in the menu
Many are not, that's why there are instructions to manually add one in. :) However this is only useful if your phone provider has an email to sms gateway and a few do not.
But if i were to purchase the gsm device, i would have to follow this link:
From that page please note:
Important Note: This product uses a 2G GSM/GPRS modem.
Whilst there are several hundred GSM carriers globally, a small number have announced plans to sunset their GSM network, including one of the major North American carriers by approximately January 1, 2017.
Please consult your local carrier(s) and a MultiTech sales representative for additional information and product options.
May I know do i set the sms setting on each user account manually, or do i set the setting under contacts? or both
You would follow the section titled Enabling SMS Alerts For Users in the document Multi-Tech iSMS Integration.
