Use Active Directory groups?

Post by PhilG »

Hello:
We are using Nagios XI 5.2.7.
Since we can add users through LDAP or Active Directory via "Admin - Users - Manage Users - Add users from LDAP/AD" (after configuring it), we would like to know if it is possible to incorporate existing Active Directory security groups with Nagios XI so that we don't have to "reinvent the wheel"? Example why: our Windows servers receive Windows updates via SCCM, and there have 4 AD groups that identify which servers will get the updates on a particular Sunday maintenance window (Phase 1 group gets updates on the 1st Sunday of the month, Phase 2 group gets updates on 2nd Sunday of the month, etc.). Since various Windows servers will reboot after updates are applied, we would like to put these Windows servers in a scheduled Nagios XI maintenance mode, and using the AD group would be ideal. If this can not be done, then is it possible to grant a specific Nagios XI Contact (or Contact group) with the ability to update (add/delete) Windows servers as needed in a Nagios XI Hostgroup (since the Contact(s) are not Admins but Users)?

Thank you in advance for your assistance?

Nagios XI does not work with Active Directory groups so you would not be able to use groups for settings up scheduled downtime, etc.

The Understanding User Rights document at the link below has an example setting called "Advanced User With Change Control" which I think is what you are looking for for youe single user that can add and remove hosts from hostgroups.

Take a look at it and if you have any questions, let us know.
