service template or host template

Post by caterpillartce »

Hello,

I have been testing to use "Event handler" to send alerts to BMC Remedy to create a ticket. Now I am ready to apply it to my production servers. We have many servers being monitored (hosts), and many monitoring services were created. I am debating whether to use host template or service template? In either template I can configure the "Event handler" to do what I want it to do. I am leaning towards host template just because there are less hosts than services to be changed for this, but would like to know if there are any pros and cons of using host template vs. service template.

Thanks for your help!

The host template is only going to fire the event handler if the host state changes, and the service event is going to fire if the service state changes. So it depends on what you want to trigger the change.
