System Requirements

Post by gregwhite »

I am trying to put together system requirements for Network Analyzer. If we were implementing it for 600 hosts, how much CPU, RAM and disk space would I need. And if I incrementally add hosts to the server how much does that consume so I will know when to beef up your system. I have seen the document with the minimum specs but it doesn't mention how many devices that will support. I have a system with 4 - 4-core CPU's, 24 gig of memory and a 500g hard drive.
ALso, do you mostly use NNA for routers or is it also useful for window or linux servers?

Thanks,
Greg

NNA isn't typically specced by number of hosts, but more by amount of traffic. You usually would just have the switches and routers sending NetFlow data, but yes in theory you could have each individual server send the data in (though this might cause duplicate traffic counts, I honestly have not tested this). I think you're good on the hardware, just make sure you have fast disks.

Thanks that helps. So we should be just focusing on netflow data from our routers and switches. I was wondering because they have instructions to send netflow data from a window server and a linux server.
Thanks

The instructions for getting netflow data from a windows or a linux server are for if you want to see specific data from them under one Source on the NNA server.
Setting them up is optional, but if you have a need, the documentation is there.
