When checking the Audit reports in Nagios Log servers found the below alert is being generated frequently .

"Alert Name The host "157.96.177.86:1514" has become unreachable returned CRITICAL: 279 matching entries found |logs=279;1;2"

what could be the reason for this alert to get generated

Some common causes could include that there may not be a route from the client to 157.96.177.86, port 1514 may not be open on 157.96.177.86, there could be a firewall between the machines blocking port 1514.

A few quick tests:

-On 157.96.177.86 run "netstat -na" to see if port 1514 is listening
-Try to ping 157.96.177.86 from the machine that cannot connect to it
-Assuming the port is TCP and is up and listening on 157.96.177.86 try running "telnet 157.96.177.86 1514" on the machine that cannot connect to it
