You'll have to set up the contacts of course, but contact groups you set up at http://YOURSERVER/nagiosxi/includes/com ... ntactgroup

Ok so what is the best way to do this. I have 4 users that is in a distribution group called "MIS" and the email is [email protected]dwhitfield wrote:You'll have to set up the contacts of course, but contact groups you set up at http://YOURSERVER/nagiosxi/includes/com ... ntactgroup
are you saying I need to make a contact for all four users and then a group and add the users to it?
Right now this is what I have. Please advise what I should do.

Re: Groups & Contacts
Oh, if this is a group set up in Exchange, then it's just like any other email. You are already getting emails, correct? I guess I don't really understand the question.
The easiest thing to do is set up an XI user for the contract group, but that's certainly not required. You'll need to read through the following documentation to understand how to set up a contact to receive email:
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ntacts.pdf
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... Mailer.pdf

Re: Groups & Contacts
If [email protected] is the email of the MIS distribution group, then all you need to do is add the "Donny Forbes" contact as a "monitoring contact" to hosts/services that you need MIS members to be notified about. If the distribution group is set up properly, an email sent to [email protected] will be delivered to all group members.
FYI - setting up distribution lists and groups is out of scope for nagios support.

Ok understand... I do have a question. How can I seperate hosts/services. Here is what I mean.lmiltchev wrote:If [email protected] is the email of the MIS distribution group, then all you need to do is add the "Donny Forbes" contact as a "monitoring contact" to hosts/services that you need MIS members to be notified about. Admin - Me ( only I care about memory, disk space, etc ) and need to be notified about this and when the server goes down and recovers.
Team - They only need to be notified when the server go down and come back up.
How can I do this? Do I just go into the contact and turn off services notification? If I do that and leave the host one enable will they still get the notification when the servers goes down and come back up?
And just not get the services related like CPU, Memory, Disk Space notifications? Please let me know.
Re: Groups & Contacts
If you are using distribution groups, all of the notifications sent to you (i.e. at [email protected]), also will be sent to all of the group members. So, you need to create two separate distribution lists.
For example:
1. Distribution Group "Admin" with 1 member - "Donny Forbes". Add the "Donny Forbes" contact to host ping checks, memory, disk space service checks, etc.
2. Distribution Group "Team" with 1 member - "Team". Add the "Team" contact to host ping checks.
Edit: When I say 1 member for "Team", I mean I contact with a specific email. The distribution group may have as many members from your team as you wish. This is not configured on the Nagios side of things though.

Here is what I did.. .I created contacts for each of my other users, and then added only to receive "Host Notifications" NOT services see below.
Will this work?

Re: Groups & Contacts
It should work, but keep in mind that these contact won't be receiving ANY notifications about services. If this is what you want, you should be fine.
