We are evaluating Nagios XI as a monitoring system. Now the problem we do not receive email alerts.
When I go to Home -> Incident Managemement -> Notifications, we see generated alerts, but do not receive any mail. So I guess this means that alerts are triggerd by nagios.
Sending an SMTP test message is working fine.
We've checked the emailserver, no messages have been sent. We
We are using contacts with notify service/host by mail notication command.
Alerts are activated on the host/service and also on the contact level.
Timeperiod is always 24/7.
We've download the preinstalled VMware image (our linux knowledge is limited.
How can we troubleshoot this? Please assist.

If you are using contacts with the notify service/host by mail command, you are not using the same functionality that the test commands use.
I would strongly encourage you to use Nagios XI users with their associated monitoring contacts vs. just contacts.

With these you would have the following as commands
xi_host_notification_handler
xi_service_notification_handler
and each user can control their settings/messages in their account settings
