Hi guys/girls,

I need some assistance in how to setup a notification scheme.

Our company has a very basic approach on notifications and it baffles me to not understand how to do this in Nagios.

We are wanting to use the following scheme:

OnCall personnel:
V1 OnDuty
V2 OffDuty

Groups: P1 is primary responsible and P2 is secondary.
G1 08:00-16:00 Workdays P1=Bob, P2=John
G2 08:00-16:00 WorkDays P1=John, P2=Bob
G3 08:00-16:00 WorkDays P1=Larry, P2=John

Categories:
Critical1 Mail 00:00 – 24:00 SMS 00:00 - 24:00
Critical2 Mail 00:00 – 24:00 SMS 08:00 - 24:00
Critical3 Mail 00:00 – 24:00 SMS 08:00 - 16:00
Critical4 Mail 00:00 – 24:00 SMS 16:00 – 24:00
Critical5 Mail 00:00 – 24:00

I've tried to use contact templates where I setup the template to use host-command and service command to email with a time period of 24/7 and then another template to use Host command and Service command to send SMS 16:00 - 24:00 but when I apply those templates to one contact, only the top one is active... can you only apply 1 template to specify notification periods? How can I get around this problem? Is there another way of doing it I'm just not seeing?

Regards,

You will need two contacts for each user, to fill in all the cells of your matrix that you'd need.
v1 X X X
v2 X X
John Bob Larry
Each X will have a different notification period, regardless of the person being the same since the notification is different it's a whole new contact. In XI this could just be done manually via the web interface, since this is so simple.
