hello,

does $serviceduration$ provide the duration of the downtime of a service (lapsed time between going to critical and OK). I need to insert this as part of a script to update info field and reporting in email.

No, it doesn't. "Downtime" is not a state. This macro gives you the amount of time that the service has spent in its current state. For more information, see our official Nagios Core documentation here:
