Ping Monitoring

Post by mohib »

Hi ,

I need help regarding Nagios Ping monitoring capability.
May I know if its able to ping large number of hosts ranging from 20k to 100k ?
what will be the configuration needed in order to monitor these many devices using ping?
Is it possible to generate a trap either the device goes down or is recovered based on ping status?

Regards,
Mohib

Hello, @mohib.
It is definitely possible but there's a big difference between 20k ping checks and 100k checks.
It also matters how often you're going to schedule these checks to run, every minute, every 10 minutes, every 30 minutes..?
Generally speaking, ping checks are resource consuming so you need to get a good hardware: fast hard drive, 8-16gb of ram, and be prepared to deploy another nagios server to balance the load between two servers.
As of May 25th, 2018, all communications with Nagios Enterprises and its employees are covered under our new Privacy Policy.
