Is it possible to remove a host or service that is part of an escalation group from the REST API level?
What would be the correct procedure?

Once a host or service is part of an escalation config, it cannot be removed via the API. It would need to be removed from the escalation config via the web UI before it can be deleted via the API or web UI.
