I thought I did this once before in the past but I am unable to find what I did in my notes.
Is there some facility for removing acknowledged items. I have a TON of them and would like to do some cleanup. Deleting one at a time is not an acceptable solution for me.

There is no way to "mass un-acknowledge" items in Nagios XI at the moment. There is a 3rd party addon on the Nagios Exchange that you could try:
