Nagios Noisy on VSphere

Post by esproul »

My Nagios XI installation is setup to monitor all of my ESXI hosts with check intervals set to 5 minutes. The issue I'm having is there are continuous login and logout showing on my VSphere events pane making it impossible to track and monitor actual events. I have tried setting check intervals to 60, and 1440 minutes with no luck. Any information would be appreciated.

I feel your pain, unfortunately there's nothing we can do from our end on this.

As we do not control the logging that vSphere does your only option is to somehow exclude it on the vSphere side (since they likely ARE valid logins/logouts that are required in order for the checks to gather the data) but that would be something you'd need to work with your vSphere support to see if that is even possible.

That may not be possible though as the functionality is theoretically supposed to be used for security auditing purposes and changing the configuration to ignore some but not others may not be in vSphere's auditing-functionality toolset.
