HP Hardware Monitoring on Gen10 servers

Hi,

We would like to monitor HP hardware monitoring on Windows server 2016 Gen 10 servers. We come to know that HP no longer support SNMP from Gen 10 servers.

Kindly advice if there are any plugins available to monitor HP hardware on Gen 10 servers ?

You need some sort of agent that can return information about the machine. If you're running Windows or Unix of some sort on it, you can likely use the https://www.nagios.org/ncpa/. Other options would be NRPE or SSH or WMI or NSClient++ (the last two for Windows).

Sorry, my question is different.

We have plugin check_hp available to monitor Gen 6 servers, but unfortunately this plugin will not support for Generation 10 servers due to SNMP feature deprecated on Gen 10 servers.

Now I am looking for plugin to monitor HP Gen 10 servers.

No, I understood you perfectly. If you do not have SNMP capabilities, then you must use another agent. Yes, SNMP is essentially an agent. You cannot monitor the machine directly as you used to. The health/snmp functionality was moved to iLO on HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers. hp-health, hp-snmp-agents, hp-smh* and hp-ams are for Gen9 servers and earlier.

Gen10 ProLiant use a new AMS (Agentless Management Service) service along with SMA (System Managmenet Assistance). To my knowledge, there is no direct Nagios compatible agent for thee at this time.

bsivavani, unfortunately we don't have HP gen 10 servers on hand to test against. Your best bet is going to be to check out the changes that HP made in their systems, and then start looking for (or creating) a plugin that will monitor gen 10 servers in the way that HP expects them to be monitored.

We don't usually develop plugins for specific hardware. We focus on building and maintaining plugins that work across a wide variety of of software and hardware.

There are some other options that may help you.

The NCPA client can be installed to your OS, and you can monitor the server via that agent.

Or, for HP more specifically, there is the check_ilo2_health plugin. You can import this plugin into Nagios, and monitor your server via HP's ILO card.

Also, if you read the links I provided, you can monitor things through those interfaces. You may need to write some synthetic web transactions to do so, but it's there. There just isn't a "Dell Gen 10 server monitoring plugin" available at this point, and it will likely be a while until someone does so. SNMP is easy. Dell's new AMS....not so much.
