ESX monitoring Performance

Post by Mogesh »

Hi Team,

We have implemented trail version of NagiosXI in our environment. We are planning to buy enterprise version shortly.
Currently, we have configured and tested the LINUX,Iseries,Windows servers. Next we are planned to monitor VMWARE host or Guest VM.

Before that we want to make sure, If VMWARE host monitoring will affect the performance the ESXi ?

Waiting for your response.

Thanks
Mogesh

Hi Mogesh,

This is dependent upon how many VM's you will be monitoring in ESXi, the hardware you are using, RAM, CPU..etc. VMware has settings to limit the number of concurrent connections to maintain performance (see vendor documentation).

We always recommend limiting the frequency checks to what's necessary for the application ( space them out as much as possible). This will improve the performance of your XI server and limit excess overhead required by the Vmware API to process the calls.
