Bandwidth Usage Reports Missing

Post by trel1234 »

There are missing a number of hosts in bandwidth usage reports.

There are rrd files for the hosts, the hosts are listed under the "View Report For" however they are missing under the "See all available reports"

The bandwidth graphs are filling up with data, and the usage looks normal, and are otherwise operating normally.

I have run through the php optimization article https://support.nagios.com/kb/article/n ... e-611.html however this has not resolved the issue. I am not seeing anything when running:

Code: Select all

tail -f /var/log/httpd/*error_log
Running any manual mrtg commands produces the desired result for any of the services that are missing from bandwidth usage reports.

I'll post the nagios profile file via IM.

Thanks in advance.

It is probably a permission issue with the MRTG rrd files. Run the following as root to set the permissions.

Code: Select all

chown apache:nagios /etc/mrtg -R
chmod 775 /etc/mrtg -R
chown apache:nagios /var/lib/mrtg -R
chmod 775 /var/lib/mrtg -R
Restart Apache

Code: Select all

service httpd restart.
Log out of the GUI and back in, do you see all of the devices and ports?

The permissions appear to be correct, here are the

Code: Select all

The permission change was run anyway, and apache was restarted and the reports are not showing up.

Can you post a name of a Host and Service that is not showing up in the "See all available reports" menu?
If you login as the nagiosadmin user in the XI GUI, do you see all of the reports?

I have run these commands and forwarded you these details in PM
LANG=C LC_ALL=C /usr/bin/mrtg /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg -debug=cfg,base,log &> /tmp/mrtg.txt
LANG=C LC_ALL=C /usr/bin/mrtg &>> /tmp/mrtg.txt
LANG=C LC_ALL=C /usr/bin/mrtg /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg --lock-file /var/lib/mrtg/mrtg.lock --confcache-file /var/lib/mrtg/mrtg.ok --user=nagios --group=nagios &>> /tmp/mrtg.txt
{ time LANG=C LC_ALL=C /usr/bin/mrtg /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg 2>1 ; } 2>> /tmp/mrtg.txt
The ports are updating with bandwidth, however the bandwidth reports are not accumulating data in the reports, there are points where it updates and accumulates but it is not consistent.

I have also gathered the rrd files for one of the hosts and I'll send it in PM

EDIT:

I have included the screenshot of the daily bandwidth count for posterity, in order to document what is happening.

The rrd files are round robin databases and they store averaged data differently depending on how far back they go.
When the report runs for last month, is looks at the section of the RRD file that may not have all of yesterdays data in it as it has not been filled in so you may not see yesterdays data until the time the data is moved in to that section.
