Nagios XI checks not working

Our Nagios XI checks are not working.

GUI - Monitoring Engine Check Statistics - showing zero against the Active Host and Service Checks

We have offloaded MYSQL and have 3 mod gearman workers

We appear to have issues with ndo2db

Initially /var/log/messages was reporting

ndo2db: Warning: queue send error, retrying...

After restarting services and then restarting the server the /var/log/messages is now displaying:

Error: queue recv error.

Our check for gearmand is reporting

check_gearman CRITICAL - failed to connect to address 127.0.0.1 and port 4730: Connection refused

ipcs -q is reporting

messages - 256,000

We have increased the message-queue limits as described in https://support.nagios.com/kb/article.php?id=139. What is the cause of this problem?
