high load spikes on local nagios server

I have started getting load alerts from the nagios server about itself. no alerts until the last week. I've added a handful of new devices, but nothing major. I recently started monitoring 5 or less windows hosts with SNMP. Added 5 or less switches with SNMP monitoring.

I need to figure this out, because I would like to add a lot more monitoring via WMI or SNMP. most of my hosts are just ping service.

server is VM with 2 vCPU and 6 gb memory
v5.6.12
hosts: 190
services: 514

I don't see evidence of this known issue:

Hi,

The top command output looks pretty normal, that said it's not unusual for resources to spike at times. You best bet here is to space out your check intervals as much as possible, the standard is 5 minutes.

See: Maximizing Performance In Nagios XI

I would also recommend adding more CPU's and memory since you are planning to exapand this system.

Hi,
we added more CPUs to fix this.
Great. Glad to hear that helped. Did you need anything else or shall we close this thread?
