Hi,
We have a total of 6 Nagios Instances and running in different OS with Nagios XI 5.7.3 versions. Below are the OS versions.
1. nagiosxi (Centos 6.6)
2. nagiosxi-apac (Centos 6.9)
3. nagiosxi-emea (Centos 6.9)
4. dynapro-nagiosxi (centos 6.6)
5. nagiosxitest (centos 6.6)
6. nagiosxidev (centos 6.5)
Now, we would like to upgrade the OS to the latest version as the RHEL 6 reaches EOL. So, can you please help with the preferred way to update the OS?
1. Download the OVA template and create a VM with the OVA template, restore the Nagios XI backups?
2. Create the VM with the latest OS and restore the Nagios XI backups?
Thanks,
Swagath Jonnala
How To upgrade the OS on Nagios Instances

Any update?
Re: How To upgrade the OS on Nagios Instances
Hello,
RHEL7 or CentOS are the most common deployments for Nagios XI and fully compatible. We always recommend clean (nothing else installed), minimal version of the distribution.
We have a guide for step-by-step migration instructions. Also, you'll need to migrate between the same versions of Nagios XI. You can either upgrade to the latest version of Nagios XI on the current system and then migrate or install XI 5.5.5 on the new server and then upgrade XI.

Re: How To upgrade the OS on Nagios Instances
Hi,
I was trying to upgrade the OS in our Nagios dev instance.
Our old server is: CentOS release 6.5 (Final)
New Server is: CentOS Linux release 7.8.2003 (Core)
Nagios Xi Version in the old server is: Nagios XI 5.7.3.
Nagios Xi version in the new server is: Nagios XI 5.7.4.
Now, I am restoring the Nagios xi backup from the old server( el6 ) to the new server( el7 ), and I followed this https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf link.
when I go to restore the backup I am getting the following message:
# /usr/local/nagiosxi/scripts/restore_xi.sh nagiosxi.1604563201.tar.gz
WARNING: you are trying to restore a el6 backup on a el7 system
Compiled plugins and other binaries as well as httpd configurations
will NOT be restored.
You will need to re-download the Nagios XI tarball, and re-install
the subcomponents for this system. More info here:
https://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nag ... ios-XI.pdf
Are you sure you want to continue? [y/N]
Can you please advise?
Thanks

Instructions for repairing a restored backup are in the Backing-Up-And-Restoring-Nagios-XI.pdf document (Page 13).
