Solaris: NCPA versus NRPE?

Post by luczynj »

Hello all,

I'm about to configure some Solaris hosts and wanted to know the best option and method for managing them. I'm currently using XI v5.7.2.

When I run the CCM Configuration Wizard and search for "Solaris", I get two options.

I've been using NRPE across flavors of *NIX, but when I select Solaris, it shows NRPE as "Legacy".

What is legacy about NRPE? Which can get the most info from my systems? NRPE can be a hassle to compile with i386 or Sparc... I've had too many issues with it and would consider NCPA.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
JLu

Hi JLu,

NRPE is a mature, stable agent for Linux/Unix systems written in C. We will continue to provide security and bug fixes as it is widely deployed. That said, we are not planning to add new features to NRPE, while we are planning a new major feature release for the NCPA agent.

We do provide NCPA Solaris builds for 10.x and 11.x.

For NRPE, follow the build from source instructions.
