NCPA Service Stops

Post by svongor »

Hello,

First off, my apologies if you guys already have a solution for this. I searched for, and found, other NCPA posts that seemed to have been posted on something similar, but to no avail.

I am monitoring a decently sized network with no problem. Until late last week. (I have previously installed and setup NCPA monitoring on my hosts, and monitored critical processes using the check_services script with no issues.)

We didn't make any critical updates or anything of the sort.

Last week, I was inundated with alerts from Nagios about my Exchange host. All, of my services being monitored were being reported as down, due to timing out, so I knew the NCPA services stopped running. I Attempted to login but I was unable to do so. This went on for about 10-15mins. When I finally got in, the CPU usage was normal but things were unusually sluggish. I restarted the NCPA services (active and passive), set them to automatic (I also tested this with manual with no solution), and I went to Properties, Recovery, and set the computers response when the service fails to, 'restart the service on the first, second and subsequent failures'. After I did all of that, the time outs ended and things were functioning back to normal.
Some time over the next cupule of days, the same problem began rolling onto some of my other hosts. I went back through the same process and this resolved the issues with each host until it began happening again but with the same hosts.

At that point, I began troubleshooting to determine if this was a malicious issue, or if my event logs would give me any info, but I found nothing on the security longs and nothing on the system logs file the NCPA services. The service just stops with no errors.

At this point, I am averaging 1-2 of these events per day. I can understand the occasional issue, but this is happening much too often. I'm running the current, latest NCPA release. Installed on Windows Sever 2019 installations. The hosts that go down are rolling, so there is no single host that's having the problem

I'd hate to try an install another solution because NCPA has previously worked well. l just need it to be reliable. Without any errors in the logs, I'm not sure what else I can say or do to fix the problem.

Has anyone else had a similar issue that now has a solution? Have an idea for further troubleshooting?

Thank you.

Can you PM me the contents of the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nagios\NCPA\var\log" directory on the Exchange server?

Can you also check that the C drive on the server has free space?
