Recurring Downtime Not Silencing Alerts

Post by SeanFromIT »

So I have a recurring downtime setup like so:
host: set
comment: set
start time: 02:54
Duration: 90
Valid: mon

But I got an e-mail alert at 03:29 this morning:

Code: Select all

PROBLEM Service Alert - hostname/Disks Free is CRITICAL

** Nagios XI Alert *****

Notification Type: PROBLEM

CONTACT: someone

Service: Disks Free

Host: hostname (hostname)

Address: someIP

State: CRITICAL

Info:

Connection refused by host

Date/Time: 2012-07-02 03:29:17

Nagios URL: http://someURL/nagiosxi/
My understanding is that by not specifying a specific service, all alerts for this host will be ignored for the duration specified. Am I wrong?

You are right - you shouldn't be receiving any alerts during the scheduled downtime. Do you have "is_volatile" option enabled for this service?

"is volatile" is set to "skip" in both the template and service definition.

Can you verify that the downtime is scheduling properly by looking in Home -> Scheduled Downtime to see if the next downtime for this service is scheduled.

Also, what version of Nagios XI are you running?

The recurringdowntime.cfg all looks normal, has this occurred before or since, or was this a one off incident?

Has it occurred on other hosts?

Yes, it continues to occur nightly. It's not limited to one host or service, but it's also not occurring with all of them. There are at least two, I can PM them to you if you think that would help you determine the problem.
