Monitoring 'Down' Ports

Hi,

Is there a way to have a status of 'Down' for a switchport to be 'ok' and 'Up' as critical? Basically, I have ports on a switch that are spare and if anyone were to make them live, I want to know about it. Yes, I can probably dig into the check scripts but I thought I'd ask if there was an easier way.

Actually, creating a check script that copies/simulates check_ifoperstatus is probably the easiest way.
