Bulk add new hosts

Post by idunnonagios »

Hey there, cant figure out how to do this simple thing and most documentation seems to all be for this NAGIOS XI product where it seems trivially easy to do this.

I have nagios QL (Version 4.4.6) and i just want to add like 80 switches to it. I do not want to do this one by one obviously. Is there no way to do this? What if you had like thousands of devices? surely there is a way and i am just ignorant. Please let me know.

I found "tools data import" but that seems like its for the configuration of nagios itself. And there is an add button under main page -> supervision -> host that you can add things in.

I inherited this system from someone who retired and am just trying to make it more useful for us. Any help appreciated!

Hello @idunnonagios,

Thank you for reaching out!

Unfortunately there is not a native "bulk add" feature for Nagios Core, though you could take a look at https://exchange.nagios.org/, and see if anyone has come up with addon/plugin that you could use.

I would also recommend checking out Nagios XI, as it provides a lot of quality of life features that would improve your monitoring experience!

If you have any other questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to reach out!

Oh forgot about this one.

We switched to zabbix earlier this year, as nagios is far too hard to manage due to issues like this.

cheers and thanks for getting back to me two years later... lol

Hello @idunnonagios,

Nagios XI, the paid solution for Nagios does have multiple ways to bulk-add hosts/services. You can use the bulk tools or use the API to add hosts.
