NCPA listener dies on SunOS 5.11 (SPARC)

Post by Velocity Electronics »

I have a pair of Sun/Oracle SPARC 7 boxes running SunOS 5.11

I've installed NCPA as per instructions. NCPA_listener and NCPA_passive both start and run... for a little while... then the listener dies.

The email generated says little:

DESC: Service svc:/site/ncpa_listener:default failed - a method is failing in a retryable manner but too often.
AUTO-RESPONSE: The service has been placed into the maintenance state.
IMPACT: svc:/site/ncpa_listener:default is unavailable.
REC-ACTION: Run 'svcs -xv svc:/site/ncpa_listener:default' to determine the generic reason why the service failed, the location of any logfiles, and a list of other services impacted. Please refer to the associated
reference document at http://support.oracle.com/msg/SMF-8000-YX for the latest service procedures and pol icies regarding this diagnosis.
FRU-LOCATION:

The reference document is pretty useless and the log only shows using the service admin tool to "clear" the maintenance mode, which restarts the listener again for a while, but eventually it dies again.

Any suggestion would be helpful.

Thanks!

Without changing anything with NCPA on the monitored machines, I deleted the configuration from the Nagios server and added them back as Oracle hosts rather than Solaris hosts. Strangely, things have been quiet and stable so far. Does SunOS equate to Oracle?

Never mind... after a few hours, the NCPA_Listener died again, so I'm still asking for HELP.

I wouldn't expect the Oracle vs. Solaris host type to make a difference as to NCPA crashing.

Can you attach the contents of

Code: Select all

/usr/local/ncpa/var/log/ncpa_listener.log
so we can examine them further?
Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
